Yoshioka

Yoshioka (よしおか) is a Japanese illustrator working mainly on artwork for books and music. The pictures have the look of watercolour: thin washes, soft edges and a muted palette, applied to plants, animals and figures that seem to have stepped out of a storybook. Each image is conceived as a small enclosed narrative, a scene from a tale the viewer is not told in full, and the mood moves freely between the gentle and the darkly fantastical.

Yoshioka's commissions include the jacket illustrations for the band Who-ya Extended, whose songs served as opening themes for the anime PSYCHO-PASS 3 and Jujutsu Kaisen, a variant cover for Titan Comics' Bloodborne series written by Aleš Kot (2019), and the serial illustration project Blanc et Noir. A first art book, embroidery, was published by PIE International in February 2022; alongside the commercial work it contains an original illustrated story, Chiisana Tsuki, written and drawn for the book, and a making-of section on the cover illustration.

Yoshioka held a solo exhibition at 9DAYS GALLERY, Shibuya Modi, Tokyo, in 2024.
