Rido
Rido (Re°, リド) is an illustrator and designer based in the Kansai region of Japan and a member of RED FLAGSHIP Inc. Since the early 2010s Rido has worked chiefly on cover illustration for literary fiction and paperback editions, with commissions from publishers including KADOKAWA, Bungeishunju, Shueisha, Kodansha, Hayakawa and Gentosha, alongside CD jacket illustration and colouring for game CG.
The work is characterised by dreamlike inner landscapes and a varied, closely observed treatment of light. Among the many book covers are Shusuke Michio's Skeleton Key (KADOKAWA), Manabu Kaminaga's Glass Ramparts (Bungeishunju), Mizuna Kuwabara's Koya wa Gunjo ni Somarite series (Shueisha) and Masateru Konishi's detective novels for Takarajimasha. Rido also created the announcement illustrations for COMITIA 123, illustrated the jacket of HACHI's second album Close to heart (2023) and was featured in pixiv's VISIONS 2025 Illustrators Book (KADOKAWA).
A first art book, Light, collecting around one hundred works from 2014 to 2021 together with making-of material and new illustrations, was published by Maar-sha in 2021. Rido's first solo exhibition, Contrast, was held at 9DAYS GALLERY in Shibuya, Tokyo, in 2024. Rido's work is presented in Europe by Tokiol.
