Sakutaro Nakatsuji

Sakutaro Nakatsuji (中辻作太朗, b. Kyoto, Japan) is an illustrator who graduated from the Illustration Course of the Faculty of Design at Kyoto Seika University. Working chiefly in book cover illustration and advertising, Nakatsuji depicts the beauty of the world as it appears in ordinary, life-sized scenery, heightening it through vivid colour and simplified form in works with titles such as Poolside, Kawadoko, On the Lake, Curtain and Color Cone.

Nakatsuji also records the scenes encountered in daily life through photography, and the illustrations grow out of this habit of noticing. In 2025 Nakatsuji created the jacket artwork for Ado's song Kaze to Watashi no Monogatari (The Story of the Wind and I), the theme song of the film Chinmoku no Kantai: Hokkyokukai Daikaisen, and also handled the character and logo design for the release.

Under the name sakutaro, Nakatsuji held a solo exhibition at 9DAYS GALLERY in Shibuya, Tokyo, in January 2023. Sakutaro Nakatsuji's work is presented in Europe by Tokiol.
